Things are Shaping Up!

What a FUN week, and we are excited to top it off with FUN NIGHT tonight! I can't wait to see everyone!

With all the snow and sometimes rainy days, we have been looking for other opportunities to move in the classroom during lessons. We've created an indoor "track" and enjoy running to music before we settle in again! We have never been able to jog in the classroom before----but we have such a safe and trustworthy class, we can make things like this happen!

Things are really shaping up around here! In math, we are learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have enjoyed playing with the tangrams on Osmo, composing new shapes/pictures out of regular 2D pattern blocks, and learning how to divide circles, rectangles, squares, and triangles into halves and/or fourths.

We also play shape games on Think Central. This is the digital component to our math book, and we enjoy matching our online games to exactly what we are learning and practicing!

This week, we also turned in our projects to the City of Cadillac for the Arbor Day Contest! We learned a little about Arbor Day and created some neat artwork. We just might have a winner from our class....stay tuned!

A HUGE THANK YOU to Elijah's Dad for coming in to talk about his career with the U.S. Forestry Service! We enjoyed learning about his job and how the Forestry Service cares for trees and the environment around us!

We LOVED getting outside to play in the sunshine (and dirt, and mud, and snow) today!!! Welcome Spring! It's about time!!

Please continue to send snow pants and boots with your child! Our playground is really wet and muddy in the spring, and we often have lots of snow here, even if it has melted at your house. While the temps might warm up, snow pants and boots are still a must so that students can stay dry from the water and mud. It is really uncomfortable to go through the day with wet pants, socks, and shoes. Muddy shoes make the carpet in the classroom all muddy as well and we sit at the group area and are on the floor often throughout the day. We try to keep that all in the coat area! Thank you for your help on this!

HOORAY!!! Finally kids get to dig in the dirt! We have missed this!

You might live in Michigan if....it's 50 degrees and sunny, but you still wear snow pants and boots (but no jacket!), and have your choice of snow, mud, dirt/sand, or water to play in!

This week, we have been working really hard on opinion writings! It is so fun to watch our students voice their opinions and SUPPORT their opinions with 2 reasons! On Monday, we are doing author's chair and sharing our writings with the class. I am so excited for them, as they have impressed me once again with their skill! Additionally, handwriting is looking phenomenal! I can tell they are really growing and changing into.....dare I say it.....second graders!!

Here's what writing time looks and sounds like in our classroom. What a sweet, sweet sight! It melts my heart!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!! Enjoy the spring weather! Get out and play!!!
