Welcome to Mrs. Powell's First grade! We are going to have a great year together. This year, your child will make great gains in all areas of academic growth. It is a critical year for learning to read - and we will work hard at being great readers all year long. We're setting the foundation for developing a love of reading, as well as creating good reading habits and skills that will last a lifetime. Parent involvement is very important in this journey!

We also learn about character development, frienships, and being good citizens. In first grade, your child will develop many friendships - some that will come and go, and some that will last for many years to come!

We are a blended learning classroom, meaning we use a mixed approach of traditional (paper/pencil) methods, infused with technology education that allow all types of learners to demonstrate and practice their learning in fun and creative ways. Parents are encouraged to connect with our classroom two important ways:

1. This website - where you will find a lot of important information updated frequently, and a good spot to have many of your questions answered. Visit our blog often to see learning in action! 

2. SeeSaw - this is a digital portfolio app that we use in class to showcase our learning. Weekly, your child will be demonstrating their understanding of various concepts and talking about their learning at school. A log in will be sent home for you to easily access your child's account. The students get SO EXCITED about this - so please jump on board and join them in celebrating their successes! Look for sign up information in your child's folder. It will take a month or so for us to get rolling with that.
