Halloween & More!

WOW, what a fun week! The Halloween Hike and apple snack bar was a huge hit! It seemed to buzz throughout the building how much everyone enjoyed the hike and snack. A HUGE THANK YOU to PTO for supporting a new idea that the teachers presented them, and jumping on board decorating and planning the hike! The PTO did an outstanding job, and there was so much to look at along the trail - eyeballs, skeletons, graves, ghosts, witches, pumpkins, and so much more! The 4th graders did an excellent job writing stories for us to read along the way. The kids got so excited when they saw a story posted to the tree.

About 3/4 of the way through the hike, we stopped for a little Monster Mash dance break! So fun!

We also enjoyed a little Halloween Yoga! We love Cosmic Kids Yoga---it's a great movement time that focuses on coordination, flexibility, stretching, and body strength-----while also incorporating story time! Each of the Cosmic Kids yoga videos have a story that goes along with it. The stories are engaging and funny, and enhance our listening skills, too!

The week, we also had an assembly from the STAND Strength team. They came with a great message for our students about standing strong and persevering when things in life get tough. Overall, their message was about friendship, kindness, perseverance, embracing who you are, and helping others.

Here's a video of our first grade friend, Elijah, helping to demonstrate that when the world makes you feel like you are spinning, you hold on tight and stay focused to overcome the obstacle.

This week, we've continued our learning about the Human Body and even had a chance to have Reed's mom, Dr. Johnston, come in to teach us about our eye and eye care. Dr. Johnston is an optometrist at Advanced Optometry in Cadillac. She brought in a model of the eye and taught us about the parts of the eye, the blood vessels, and how light enters the eye, and how to take good care of our eyes.

The students really enjoyed the model of the eye. All of the parts came off, and they could practice putting the parts of the eye back on the model, like a puzzle. Annika thought it would be even cooler if the model would rotate on the post without having to physically rotate it. That sounds like a great invention, and maybe Annika is the perfect person to invent that someday!

We continued our work on the Human Body by learning about germs, vaccinations, and healthy food options. We learned about the 5 keys to health: eating nutritious foods, sleep, keeping clean, exercise, and visiting a doctor for well checks. Students chose one of the 5 keys to draw and write about. They are working hard to remember to use capitalization, punctuation, finger spaces, and neat handwriting.

Here's a video of what writing time sounds like in our classroom. We try to work quietly so that students can stay focused on stretching out their sounds to spell the best they can, and to be the best writer that they can be! Check us out during writing time! You may want the sound on to hear the instrumental music that we love to listen to during writing time. ENJOY!

Lastly, please view this important informational video and remember to vote on November 7th! Our CAPS students are counting on us!!

We are also having a Blue Ribbon Assembly at CHS at 9:45am on Monday. You will not want to miss this!! We are celebrating Forest View's achievement in academic excellence and we'd love for you to come! There will be a tunnel of parents welcoming staff and students as they arrive at the auditorium, a message from the Mayor, speaking parts by our students, and a couple of really fun surprises that YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS!! It's going to be EPIC! Meet us there and join us in a fun send off for Mr. Brown and Mrs. Simons as they head to D.C. to accept our Nation Blue Ribbon Award! We are so proud of the staff, students, and parents that work together to achieve this level of academic excellence! On Monday, we encourage all students to wear navy BLUE (or any blue will do!)
