Valentine's & World Read Aloud Day!

We had a super fun Valentine's Day! The children sure love making, delivering, and receiving Valentine cards! We enjoyed time to sort through the Valentine mail, have a little dance party, some party food snacks and watch a little bit of 101 Dalmatians. Thank you to everyone who brought the Valentine party foods, and to Lydia's mom for helping set up, clean up, and serve snacks!

We had an awesome time doing a "Mystery Hangout" using Google Hangout on World Read Aloud Day (Feb. 16) with a first grade class from Monterey, Mexico! The first grade teacher from San Patricio read us the story, A Mother for Choco. Then, I read their class the story, Froggy's First Kiss. It was very interesting to our students to hear the accent of the other teachers. We REALLY had to listen to understand!

After the stories, we had time for a little Q&A. We learned that at their school, they only speak English, but in their homes, they only speak Spanish! They attend a private school and have to wear uniforms.

We compared the weather, and the first graders in Mexico were very curious to see our snow! We took the web cam outside and showed them the snow and how to make a snowball. They loved it! Their teachers cringed when we told them it was 27 degrees and their teachers thought it was way too close to zero. They also showed us their playground, and it had a track, lots of green grass, a football field, and it was 85 degrees that day!

This was an awesome experience for both first grade classrooms and teachers! We hope to meet up with them again sometime this year.

These 4 earned their teacher lunch this week! They've reached 75 points on Class Dojo for being on time to the group area, being responsible, and working like a first grader! Keep up the good work! The pizza and 'dirt cups' were yummy!
