Bat Cave Day!
We had SO MUCH fun on Bat Cave Day!! I am not sure who was more excited---me or the kids?! When they entered the bat cave on Friday, it was obvious that we were equally excited about this day! We worked hard and learned a lot about bats and comparing texts these last two weeks, so this day was well deserved, and a FUN way to learn and spend the day together!
Right from the get-go, students took care of their folders and morning routine as normal! It's business as usual inside the bat cave!
The friends got a visit from Mrs. O right before our phonics lesson, and she was surprised that we weren't actually hanging upside down all day! ;)
We incorporated our math fact fluency practice with a bat craft!
I felt like I was on stage during group time teaching lessons! The spotlight was on me---but oh, boy, they knew where to look and learn...and who doesn't like blinding their teacher with a flashlight now and again?! :)
Here's Colin doing the morning calendar, word wall words, and morning routine with the class. He was the teacher assistant last week, and he did a fantastic job!
We even did reading groups in the BAT CAVE! Reading with a flashlight is so engaging! I will pretty much jump through hula hoops set on fire to get kids to love reading, and luckily I don't have to! They love it already and are showing growth in reading levels. This week I am assessing students to see if they are making gains in reading levels, and I can't wait to share that information with you. Look for notes to come home that say "The Reader in Me"!
Hunter is practicing his sight words during morning work time!
THANK YOU to Elijah's grandparents for the pack of flashlights. They came in SO handy on Bat Cave Day and will be put to good use in the future. We very much appreciate the generous donation!
