Book Cafe!

Our classroom was all coffee shop/bookstore vibes today; Barnes and Nobles has nothing on us! I wouldn't be surprised if we had some up and coming NY Times best selling authors in our presence today. The non-fiction books written by our 6th grade authors were sensational! Miss Dean and I were really impressed with the students' hard work, dedication, and stamina throughout this project.

From researching, note-taking, and writing, re-writing, revising, designing cover pages, and more, our students went all in and gave it everything they had. The goal of this unit was to review and learn about non-fiction text features that authors use and apply it to their own writing. Students chose their own topic and were required to use five non-fiction text features (graphs, timelines, photos, captions, headings, etc.), among other writing standards as well.

We had a wide variety of topics and a great selection of books, magazine articles, and cookbooks. The book cafe was the perfect way to showcase our published work. Thank you to all of the families that brought in snacks, refreshments, and decorations. A very special THANK YOU to Starbucks for donating the cups. The kids buzzed about them alllllll day!!

Enjoy the abundance of photos from our memorable day!

We were excited to include some students via video chat as they were working from home!

Samples of the homemade doggie treats were given out to students who have dogs at home. FUN! Thanks, Ella!!
