Sailing into 6th!

The first 2 days have been smooth sailing in 6th grade! Today's highlights included learning about our classroom library area, and being able to use the various seating options available in ELA. The outdoor classroom and the couches were a hit!

Reading and writing should feel comfortable and natural. As adults, we don't always sit at our kitchen tables, desks, or in our offices to read the latest NY Times bestseller or to do paperwork. Instead, we find the places that are comfortable and enjoyable: the beach, porch/deck, cozy living room furniture, or even sitting on the floor. In our classroom, we are developing reading and writing habits that will last a lifetime and we practice our skills in a way that is applicable to the world beyond our classroom walls. Hopefully today we planted the seed that reading and writing are most enjoyable when we find a place that allows us to be comfortable and focused.
