Ready or not, it is December and that means it is a BUSY month! We know!! Thank you for checking in here to see what we've been up to, and not miss a beat about what's happening at school! The more organized and prepared your child is, the more relaxed and ready they are to learn and accomplish great things at school!

First up, a new spelling list came out today! You can find it in the Document/Spelling List section of our classroom website! The test is Dec. 7. The words that we are working with this time are related to the prefixes we have been studying: il-, ir-, and inter-. It is helpful for your child to use syllables to spell the words correctly. We introduced the words today, and will practice them each day in class. However, please be sure to check in with your child each day at home to see how they are progressing on their word lists!

We are knee deep in our Codex project where are are researching, writing nonfiction text, and ultimately creating a book similar to the early style of the Aztec, Inca, and Maya. Everyone has been working really hard, and we are excited to soon see the finished products! Stay tuned for more!

We are doing a classroom book exchange, and would like ALL students to participate! Information went home today, 12-3-18. Please have your child purchase a new book that any 5th girl or boy would enjoy---not too easy, and not too hard....just a typical chapter book for this age level, magazine, word search book, etc. We will play a game on Dec. 20, and at the end of the game, all students will go home with a new book from a classmate!! If this creates a hardship for your family, please let Mrs. Powell know so that arrangements can be made and no one will feel left out! THANK YOU for helping your child spread Christmas cheer and do something kind for a classmate!

Book orders can be placed at scholastic.com, or you can pick one up locally. Please use the code L6KJQ when purchasing through scholastic so that the orders are tracked through my teacher account. Try entering "dollar deals" in the scholastic search box and you will find books for $5 and under!

PS - Please refrain from ordering The Dog Who Saved Christmas, as that is our December book of the month selection!!

Also, if you would like to order books for your child for Christmas, I am happy to keep them a secret and arrange for you to pick up your order without your child knowing! Books are a GREAT gift!! Just let me know!
