FALLing in LOVE with 5th Grade!
We are hitting our stride here in 5th grade! The routines and procedures are all in place. The nervous feelings that the students had about coming to MTMS have dissipated, new friendships have been made, and we are well into our curriculum! It was so great to meet with everyone at conferences. Thank you for coming in, hearing about your child's school life, looking at work samples, staying involved in their education, and supporting the work that we do here as a team of parents, teachers, and students! Life is good here!!
Check out some photos and see what we've been up to!
In ELA, we wrote our final personal narrative for the end of unit. Our 5th grade scholars worked hard to plan, organize, and write a first draft. They also went through the revision process and edited their work to be their very best. Final copies were uploaded to their SeeSaw accounts. Check them out and feel free to leave your young author some positive feedback!
During WIN time in ELA we have been working hard on understanding the meaning of words, specifically words that have a prefix. Students have been enjoying reading short stories and passages that require vocabulary and comprehension "word work", and following up with a prefix game!
We also had a friendly competition among the group members that involved determining the meaning of words in text. They loved it! We can't wait to have another game day! Work hard, play hard!
I absolutely loved reading our "Thoughtful Thursday" notes to classmates. Students stepped outside their comfortable circle of friends to write something inspiring, positive, kind, or encouraging to someone in the class that they don't usually talk to. I was impressed with the kind words that were shared with one another!
A couple weeks ago, we celebrated International Day of the Girl child. Mrs. Koenig planned a motivational morning for just the girls, and it was great! We watched Michelle Obama speak on the Today Show about empowering girls in education around the world. We enjoyed our time together, while the boys hung out playing games in the gym with Mr. Mitchell.
Our room was packed with wonderful 5th grade young ladies, ready to take ownership in their education and make a difference in the classroom, their community, and the world. Let's keep cheering them on all school year long!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Lydia and her mom, for ensuring that every 5th grade girl in our triad had an inspiring quote on their locker on that special morning. They were so thrilled to have a thoughtful surprise on their lockers when they arrived to school. Many of the lockers are still decorated with the quotes----the girls loved them!
Have an awesome weekend, everyone!! I hope to see you at activity night tonight!
