Week One...DONE!

We successfully made it through week one! The days went by super quick, and we sure packed a lot into them! Here's a review of our week in ELA:

We learned how to navigate our classroom library, and selected a book to read. Students needs to bring a book to read to ELA every day! Books borrowed from Mrs. Powell's class can be checked in/out by students just like other libraries, and students are responsible for any lost books.
We will visit the MTMS Media Center library on Fridays, and students are allowed to check out 2 books from there. Books should be returned BEFORE library days, unless they are renewing them.
More to come on how students select books, reading levels, and assessments to find books that are a good fit for each individual! Stay tuned!

We played lots of games to get accustomed to working in groups in our class! If you have any of these games at home that you aren't using, or want to purchase one to donate to our classroom, we'd love to have: Scrabble, Scrabble Jr., Up Words, Bananagrams, Apples to Apples, Scattergories, and any other word games for ages 8-12. Thank you so much!!!

We also tested out all the different seating options in our classroom. You will find that our classroom will offer students a chance to get up, move around, and work where they are comfortable - even outside!!!----IF students are responsible and follow the boundaries and expectations. It is so much better that sitting in one spot at a table the whole time!

And, as a fun Friday reward, all three of Mrs. Powell's ELA classes earned POPCORN FRIDAY for working together as a whole class when it was time to listen and learn, work cooperatively, demonstrate appropriate noise levels for the task at hand, following directions quickly, and overall showing just how Cadillac VIKINGS work, achieve, and represent themselves in the classroom! GO VIKINGS!!!!!
We are so ready for week 2!
